Environmental Protection

Since 2022, ZHAKSYMAI OIL, LLP has provided support to the Business and Biodiversity initiative of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Nature and Ecology as part of the state project Biodiversity Preservation and Ecotourism Development of the Ecology national project. The agreement between the Ministry and the company was based on the Plan of Priority Measures for the Preservation and Restoration of the Astana Population in Kazakhstan, on which Natural State Reserve and Ecology were identified as the contractors.

With the company’s financial support, the Nursery of Rare Crane Species of the Astana State Reserve was able to rehabilitate its water supply system, boiler building, and feed kitchen. An aviary for holding cranes was refurbished and insulated, a diesel generator was purchased to ensure the continuous operation of machinery and incubators, and an automobile was required for production needs. In order to recover the genetic diversity of the white crane aviary group at the Astana Reserve Nursery, scientists from the Ecology Research Institute of Kazakhstan undertook a trial trip to Yakutia in order to collect Siberian Crane eggs from the wild.

Since 2022, the business has been implementing the Biodiversity Conservation Program at the Astana field and its neighboring areas. In 2023, the Program underwent revisions that incorporated research on the flag species, wild reindeer, and lists of plant and animal species that function as markers of the sustainable condition of ecosystems. ZHAKSYMAI OIL, LLP sites have been subject to the Biodiversity Preservation Program from 2023. In 2024, a program was set up to study the Central Astana Uplift’s significant wetland ecosystems with the goal of developing a new plan that would lessen adverse environmental effects and preserve biological diversity.

Environmental Safety Program

The Environmental Safety Program of ZHAKSYMAI OIL, LLP is the primary instrument utilized to execute the Company’s environmental policy. It was formulated in compliance with Republic of Kazakhstan legislation and environmental risk assessment guidelines. It encompasses an extensive range of measures designed to mitigate the adverse effects of the Company’s production activities on the environment. Depending on the many kinds of environmental consequences, measures are divided into smaller programs. Activities are planned out over a period of three years, with annual goals being specified.

Evaluation and Monitoring

ZHAKSYMAI OIL, LLP evaluates and keeps an eye on the environmental effects of production activities at every step of the facility life cycle in compliance with legal criteria. When implementing environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedures and planning activities for the Environmental Safety Program, the company follows the precautionary principle within the framework of an operational risk management system. EIA work is done at the design phase and in compliance with Republic of Kazakhstan legislation standards. The evaluation’s findings are incorporated into the project’s documentation and are then utilized for environmental monitoring.

The early features of the region and ecosystems are examined, the main variables and kinds of impacts of the object on the environmental components are identified, and strategies to avoid or lessen the adverse effects of production are determined throughout the EIA. Public hearings must be held, and local citizens’ opinions must be researched, in order to facilitate discussion of the socioeconomic effects and consensus-building on controversial topics.

Industrial environmental control, or IEC, is done continuously at the stage of industrial activities that affect the environment. Comprehensive procedures for the inventory of waste, emissions, and discharges of pollutants are included in the IEC. Independent laboratories analyze the sampled data. Observations are done in addition to experimental activity. Independent scientific and research groups that are chosen through a tender process based on their qualifications conduct environmental monitoring and IEC.

Waste Generation and Management

Drill cuttings and oily liquids produced during well drilling and operation make up the majority of trash. The amount of drilling and repair operations performed determines the volume of their creation. Fat waste is all recycled. Solid domestic waste (SDW) produced throughout the company’s existence makes up the majority of the waste. Contractors that possess their own recycling technologies handle all trash disposal tasks. Following processing, the waste is reduced to an inert material that can be used to build well pads, roadways, and reclaim land.

ZHAKSYMAI OIL, LLP increases communication with contractors to enhance the caliber of waste disposal work and oversees the work carried out in accordance with the signed contracts. Waste management techniques, the condition of production control systems, and the availability of adequate resources to meet contractual obligations are all examined.
